HELP TO PROTECT THE LEGACY OF THE TINGA TINGA FAMILY
Already during Mr.Tingatinga's lifetime, the style was called after his name - Tinga Tinga art. And it was recognized worldwide. Copenhagen, Amsterdam, London or New York were some of the places where Tinga Tinga art was exhibited already in 1972. Ufortunately, he was killed the same year. Since his death, the art was widely copied by persons who claimed to the art dealers to be Mr.Tingatinga's relatives. The style and the Tinga Tinga name was already famous in 1972 and selling the paintings on the name Tinga Tinga itself was a profitable business.
Unfortunately, the Tinga Tinga family never got a chance to represent Mr.Tingatinga and his art abroad. Therefore, the Tinga Tinga family teams up with Daniel Augusta of TANART to gain a voice abroad at least through online media. Domastically, the Tinga Tinga family and their rights are recognized. For instance, the Vice President of Tanzania, Dr. Mohammed Gharib Bilal presented to Martina Tingatinga the Lifetime Achievement Award given to her late father, Edward Saidi Tingatinga in October 2014.
